LESSON 7: CALL OF ISLAM FOR LOVE AND FRATERNITY

1. The literal meaning of Islam is total surrender to the wide of call for love and fraternity is also included in the teachings of Islam.

ALLAH, the Almighty, says :

Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them in terms of honour. And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: “My Lord! Bestow on them, Thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.” (17 : 23-24)

2. ALLAH, the Almighty, sent Muhammed (peace be upon him) as a messenger of love, fraternity and beneficence for the entire humanity.

ALLAH, the Almighty, says :

“We sent thee not, but as a Mercy for all creatures.” (21 : 107)

3. The pious and the sublime teachings of Islam eradicate pride and arrogance from man. When someone gets rid of pride and arrogance, he does not consider others inferior. Instead he Intermingles with them freely.

Allah, the Almighty, says :

“O my son!” (said Luqman) “Establish regular prayer, enjoin what is just and forbid what is wrong: and bear with patient constancy, whate’er betide thee; for this is firmness (of purpose) in (the conduct of) affairs. And swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men nor walk in insolence through the earth; for ALLAH loveth not any arrogant boaster. And be moderate in thy pace and lower thy voice; for the harshest of sounds, without doubt, is the braying of the ass”. (31 : 17-19)

4. To create an atmosphere of peace, tranquillity, love and fraternity, in any society, it is necessary that people respect each other, and do not find fault or harbour ill feelings against each other, Consequently Islam paid full attention towards these basic issues and forbade all social evils in order to establish an atmosphere of love and fraternity amongest men.

ALLAH, the Almighty, says :

The Believers are but a single Brotherhood, so make peace and reconciliation between your two (contending) brothers; and fear ALLAH, that ye may receive Mercy. O ye who believe! Let not some men among your laugh at others : it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor let some women laugh at others: it may be that the (latter) are better, than the (former): nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other, nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames: Ill-seeming is a name connoting wickedness, (to be used of one) after he has believed: and those who do not desist are (indeed) doing wrong. O ye who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: and spy not on each other, nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, ye would abhor it … But fear Allah: for Allah is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. (49 : 10-12)

5. One of the reasons of enmity is that someone may consider himself superior to others on the basis of language, colur, creed or wealth etc. Islam has condemned this concept and has created among men love and fraternity and said that one who is good to others is really good himself.

ALLAH, the Almighty, says :

O mankind ! we created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise, each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of the God (ALLAH) is (he who is) the most righteous of you: And the God (ALLAH) has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). {49 : 13}
