LESSON 9: THE BENEFITS OF WORSHIP

1. When a person lives according to the methods taught by ALLAH, the Beneficent, and His Apostle, ALLAH, the Magnificent, bestows on him His countless blessings and rewards.

ALLAH, the Magnificent, says :

ALLAH has promised, to those among you who believe and work righteous deeds, that He will, of a surety, grant them in the land, inheritance (of power), as He granted it to those before them, that He will establish in authority their religion – the one which He has chosen for them; and that He will change (their state), after the fear in which they (lived), to one of security and peace: ‘They will worship Me (alone) and not associate aught with Me’. If any do reject Faith after this, they are rebellious and wicked. (24 : 55)

2. “Salat” (prayer) which occupies a basic place in worship, has been ordered by ALLAH. The Magnificent, to be said at specific timings. So, who offers his prayers according to the style taught by Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him), he leads a pleasant and good life, and surprising changes occur in his life, which do not benefit him alone, but all around him are benefited.

ALLAH, the Magnificent, says :

Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee, and establish Regular Prayer: for Prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance of ALLAH is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And ALLAH knows the (deeds) that ye do. (29 : 45)

3. To day most people in the world are mentally disturbed. Some of them seek comfort in wealth, and some in children, and others in various engagements. Despite all this they remain ill at ease. Because real mental peace comes from the strengthening association of man with ALLAH, the Magnificent, his Creator. This can be achieved only when man does not forget the purpose of his creation, that is worship.

ALLAH, the Magnificent, says :

Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of ALLAH: for without doubt in the remembrance of ALLAH do hearts find satisfaction.

4. Man learns civilized manners from worship, along with other benefits. Now take “Salat” for instance, ALLAH, the Magnificent, has ordered it at specified timings. This creates in man, punctuality and discipline. “Fasting” creates in man a determination, to bear and face hardships. He appreciates and considers the hunger and thirst of the poor. “Zakat” brings material prosperity to the society. “Hajj” kindles in man the sense to live together peacefully and in perfect harmony. In short the blessings of ‘worship’ make him successful in this world and in the hereafter.

ALLAH, The Almighty, says :

O ye who believe! Fear ALLAH, and (always) say a word directed to the right: That He may make your conduct whole and sound and forgive you your sins: He that obeys ALLAH and His Apostle, has already attained the highest achievement. (33 : 70-71)

5. This lesson teaches us a number of benefits of worship of ALLAH, the Magnificent. Some of them are as under:
